Ladies Racing Autumn Series 2016

Monday 21st November was the last race in the ladies racing Autumn series at Regatta Sailing Academy.

After 7 weeks of incredibly close racing the results could swing in anyone of four possible overall contenders depending on the results of the final two races.

With one final short course race and then a longer distance, double points race the racers launched into the still waters of Katara bay expecting a gentle tactical morning. The first short course race lived up to expectations and was a very close tactical affair.

The final, double points, longer distance race saw the wind increase to an excellent 12 knots and the fleet working hard to get every possible inch out of their lasers.

The final, double points, longer distance race saw the wind increase to an excellent 12 knots and the fleet working hard to get every possible inch out of their lasers.

The fleet left the shelter of Katara bay and headed out into the picture perfect waters of Doha’s west bay. After running down to a turning mark a few miles offshore the fleet then turned and started the long slog back into Katara for their finish.

With constant position changes and a large gain made by those on the left hand side of the course the fleet approached Katara bay still with overall victory possible by four unique contenders!

After crossing the finish line even the competitors themselves were desperately running their maths to see who had won.

Upon returning to the beach at Regatta Sailing Academy still there was no clear winner.

Race officer Simon Kearns held the final debriefing and results presentation. In third place with 24 points, was Taylor Carta. First and second were tied on 22 points so even after first place count backs they were still tied overall, so after looking at the second places the competitors were finally split by only one less 2nd place in a 16 race series. In second place was Kirsten Haynes and the overall victor was Fiona Carter.

Regatta Sailing Academy wants to congratulate all the competitors in this series for a very hard fought and highly competitive series throughout the last two months.
